As a decentralised company 🧭, working asynchronously ⏰, we are constantly looking for an alternative ways of working.

🧑‍🚀 What is our methodology?

We rethink everything, the way we organise meetings, we work without time control, without hierarchy in decision making, without reporting lines, without an office, without job titles, without KPI´s /OKR´s.

👩‍🚀 What is the cost of doing this?

We won’t lie to you, it’s a big challenge… but it’s worth a try.

We also work in constant change, if something doesn’t work we redesign it, we discuss it with the team and we take decisions to change what doesn’t work, we are not tied to any technology, we try it until it stops working, if it doesn’t work 👋 bye bye! we move on to another one without wasting our time.

We know that being a new talent in a company is a rollercoaster of emotions. Apart from not knowing the people, nor the work culture of the company you are joining, you are just starting a professional career, so the doubts, fears and insecurities are even greater.

This is where the possibilities of being able to navigate and embrace uncertainty come into play, encouraging learning at every moment, making an opportunity out of every crisis.

Tamara González, Jr. Full Stack Developer at Clovr Labs, leaves us some reflections on her own experience.

She explains it as follows…

“I joined Clovr Labs with no previous programming experience after completing a Bootcamp. After five months, I am now fully confident working on my own on the Front End and currently learning Python and carrying out some Back End tasks. On my first day, I was introduced to the team and assigned a Senior Software Engineer, Rasmus, who is supervising my job and learning path. We are 1000 km away though this is not an obstacle. We talk daily and/or as many times I need, and I don’t really miss having him seated next to me — apart from sharing a coffee sometime a while 🙂. I also have the support from the rest of the team, and we share weekly meetings, just listening to them is a learning for me. Another key point is that I have never felt the pressure to be urgently productive, which has helped me not get frustrated. There were times when I got stuck, and being on remote made me try a bit harder. Whereas if sitting next to the Senior, I would have asked for help sooner. Solving these situations on my own has led me to some of the most valuable learnings. And last but not least, being part of an async team allows me to organize my day according to my personal needs, saving time by not commuting to the office. Those extra hours in the day allow me to have a better work-life balance. In my case, this has had an enormous positive impact on my performance and learning curve. To all Juniors out there: It is possible to work as a junior remotely if the company is willing to help you. Be open about your skills level and what you find challenging. Be curious and inquisitive. Overcome the “working home alone” negative bias. There are infinite tools to communicate face to face, pair programming and code sharing… Even to play games together! Trust me, you will not miss the office”.
